According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Biotechnology is defined as:
“The use of biological processes, organisms, or systems to manufacture products intended to improve the quality of human life. The earliest biotechnologists were farmers who developed improved species of plants and animals by cross-pollination or cross breeding.”
Medical Biotechnology is the application of the biotechnology techniques in the medicine where products are engineered for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, all aiming to improve the quality of human life. Accordingly, the main research interest of Medical Biotechnology lies in Genomics, Proteomics, Genetic Engineering, Molecular Diagnostics, Gene Therapy, Tissue Engineering, Recombinant Proteins, Molecular Target Therapy, Bioinformatics, Stem Cell Biology, and Regenerative Medicine.
Department of Medical Biotechnology has established teaching programs for postgraduate students, including Master of Science (MSc), and Philosophy of Degree (PhD) students and has graduated many students to the scientific community of the country. This department also recruits postdoctoral fellowships and operates international training programs.
Program primarily intends to:
  • Supply the required expert personnel in biotechnology for related research centers
  • Supply the required expert personnel for the production sector
  • Expand technology in the country as the basis for the expansion of advanced biomedical sciences
