Program Description
The field of molecular medicine, though conceptually introduced in 1949, has witnessed significant development in recent decades, particularly in European and American countries. Recognizing its strategic importance, numerous universities worldwide offer annual scholarships to students in this discipline. Iranian universities began offering programs in Molecular Medicine in 2007, and due to a growing demand for qualified graduates, an increasing number of institutions now admit students into this major.
As an interdisciplinary field, Molecular Medicine focuses on understanding the molecular basis of disease etiology and pathogenesis. It integrates fundamental and heuristic research aimed at the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various disorders. The dissemination of knowledge in molecular medicine, achieved through a synergy of education and clinical research with an emphasis on active learning and cutting-edge investigations, is crucial for advancing medical science and improving public health.
Core values of the program include fostering creativity and innovation, analyzing research findings, and applying molecular medicine to address public health challenges. Graduates are trained to uphold principles of social justice, human equality, and patient rights, irrespective of age, sex, race, culture, or religion, ensuring all activities respect human dignity.
Over the next decade, graduates of this Ph.D. program are expected to expand the frontiers of knowledge in Molecular Medicine within the region. By leveraging integrated basic and clinical research, they will contribute to elevating the country's standing in this field and further establish the discipline in the scientific community. The program aims to educate knowledgeable, skilled, and committed individuals capable of designing and leading innovative medical research at the cellular and molecular levels, thereby training expert professionals for educational and research roles in Molecular Medicine.
Admission Requirements
For Domestic Iranian Students:
Admission for Iranian students is contingent upon success in a competitive national entrance examination, followed by an interview.
For International Students:
International students with a background in Biomedical sciences are encouraged to apply. The primary admission process involves:
Directly contacting the head of the department via email.
Initiating correspondence with potential supervisors within the department.
Submitting a Curriculum Vitae (CV).
Participating in an online or in-person interview.
General Academic Prerequisites (for all applicants):
Applicants must hold a professional or academic degree from an institution recognized by the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education. Eligible degrees include:
A professional doctorate in Medicine (MD), Dentistry (DDS), Pharmacy (PharmD), or Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
A Master of Science (MSc) or equivalent in one of the following fields: Bacteriology, Biophysics, Physiology, Human Genetics, Mycology, Medical Biotechnology, Medical Entomology and Vector Control, Hematology and Blood Bank, Virology, Biology (with specializations in Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or Microbiology), Parasitology, Microbiology, Immunology, Clinical Biochemistry, or Nutrition Sciences.
Additional requirements may include:
Submission of recommendation letters.
Fulfillment of any other specific criteria as defined by the admitting university.
Important Note:
The conditions listed above are general guidelines. Specific institutes or universities may have additional requirements.
